Watchlists

Last updated: 2025-11-13

The Watchlists module enables users to organize, track, and monitor financial instruments in a personalized and flexible way. It is designed to help investors manage their market interests across multiple lists, customize how information is displayed, and receive insights through charts, news, and rules-based automation.

The Watchlists area is the central hub where users manage groups of tracked instruments.
Each watchlist represents a custom collection of stocks or other financial assets the user wants to monitor.

Key capabilities:

  • Organize symbols into separate thematic or strategic lists.
  • Switch between multiple watchlists quickly.
  • View summarized performance, key data points, and real-time activity.

Watchlists Tabs

Tabs allow users to navigate between different watchlists.
Each tab corresponds to a user-created watchlist and provides a simple way to switch between saved collections.

Typical use cases:

  • One tab for “Tech Stocks”
  • One for “Long-term Portfolio”
  • One for “Earnings Season”
  • One for “Watch Later” symbols

Tabs support full management actions such as duplication, renaming, and deletion.

Watchlist Actions

Users can modify entire watchlists through the following actions:

Add Symbol

Add one or more instruments to the current watchlist using search with symbol, ticker or company name.

Create New

Create an entirely new, empty watchlist the user can populate with symbols.

Rename

Change the name of the watchlist for better organization or clarity.

Duplicate

Create a copy of an existing watchlist - useful for testing strategies or versions.

Delete

Permanently remove a watchlist and all its contents from the user’s saved lists.

Components

The Components module provides a detailed, table-based view of all financial instruments included in the selected watchlist. Each instrument (component) represents a tradable asset-such as a stock, ETF, or other security-that the user is tracking. The module is designed to give users full flexibility in how they view and analyze their watchlist holdings.

Purpose of the Components Page

The Components page allows users to:

  • View all financial instruments that belong to the watchlist
  • Create and manage custom table views tailored to their workflow
  • Choose which data columns (metrics) they want to analyze
  • Quickly compare performance, fundamentals, and company attributes across all components

Components Views

The Components Views section allows users to switch between different table layouts within the Components module. Each view represents a unique configuration of columns, metrics, and ordering-giving users the flexibility to analyse their watchlist components from multiple perspectives.

Components View Actions

Users can customize the component view and its table using the following actions:

Edit Mode

Enables rearranging and modifying the table of components view.

Duplicate

Create a second instance of a components view, possibly with different components table configuration.

Rename

Give a component view a custom name (e.g., “Growth Metrics”, “Dividend Metrics”).

Currency Conversion

Switch the displayed values (e.g., prices, market caps) into a different currency - useful for international investors.

Delete

Remove the component view from the watchlist.

Components View – Edit Mode

When Edit Mode is enabled, users can fully customize how their watchlist table is displayed. The following actions become available:

Edit Columns

Users can adjust which data fields appear in the table. Actions inside the Edit Columns panel:

  • Add Columns
Browse or search through the Available Data list on the left, then drag a metric to the right side or double-click it to include it in the table.
  • Remove Columns
Click the trash icon next to any column in the Selected Columns list to remove it.
  • Reorder Columns
Drag items up or down in the Selected Columns list to change the column order.
  • Rename Columns
Click the pencil icon next to a selected column to edit its display name.

Auto Size

  • Automatically adjusts column widths in the table to best fit their content.

Save or Discard Changes

  • Save confirms the updated layout.
  • Discard cancels all edits and restores the previous configuration.

Adding Columns

In Edit Mode, users can expand their table view by adding new data fields. Columns can be added in two ways:

1. Drag-and-Drop

  • In the Available Data panel on the left, browse through the categories (e.g., Ticker, Quote, Company).
  • Grab the desired metric and drag it into the Selected Columns list on the right.
  • Once dropped, the column is immediately added to the table.

2. Double-Click to Add

  • Double-click any metric in the Available Data section.
  • The column will automatically appear in Selected Columns.

Additional Notes

  • Some metrics may be unavailable or greyed out if they depend on the symbol type or data source.
  • Newly added columns appear at the bottom of the Selected Columns list, but you can reorder them afterward by dragging.

Charts

Each symbol in the watchlist is displayed as an individual chart card. These cards provide at-a-glance price information and trend visualization.

Time Span Selector

Each chart card includes its own individual time span selector, allowing users to view historical price data over different periods:

  • 7D - Last 7 Days
  • 14D - Last 14 Days
  • 21D - Last 21 Days
  • 1M - Last 1 Month
  • 3M - Last 3 Months
  • 6M - Last 6 Months
  • 12M - Last 12 Months
  • 24M - Last 24 Months (2 Years)
  • 36M - Last 36 Months (3 Years)
  • YTD - Year to Date (from January 1st of the current year until today)

Users can switch between these ranges to adjust the timeframe displayed on a specific chart.

Global Time Span Selector

Above the chart grid, the page also provides a global time span selector (e.g., Default Charts Time Span: 7D).
When the user changes this global setting:

  • All chart cards on the page update simultaneously.
  • It becomes the default viewing range for the entire watchlist.
  • Individual cards can still be adjusted manually afterward if needed.

This allows users to quickly compare all symbols across the same time horizon without editing each chart individually.

News

The News module provides a comprehensive view of all news articles related to the symbols in the selected watchlist. It combines quantitative statistics, sentiment trends, and detailed article content, helping users track market-moving events and sentiment shifts in real time.

News Statistics Section

At the top of the module, you can see two analytical charts summarizing news activity over the last 90 days.

  1. News Count (Last 90 Days)
    • A bar chart showing the daily number of news articles related to the watchlist’s symbols.
    • Higher bars indicate days with increased media coverage.
  2. News Sentiment Trend (Last 90 Days)
    • A sentiment chart displaying positive (green) and negative (red) sentiment levels for each day.
    • Sentiment values range from -1 to +1.

News Feed

Below the statistics section is a chronological list of all relevant news articles. Users can scroll through the list to explore recent updates, earnings commentary, analyst opinions, and market-impacting stories.

Detailed Article View

Selecting any article from the list opens a detailed view on the right side of the screen.

Rules

The Rules module allows you to automate alerts for the selected watchlist. Although the system is designed to support various types of triggers, currently only one type of rule is available: alerts for newly published news. These alerts help you stay informed about important updates related to the companies in their watchlist without actively monitoring the news feed.

Rule Creation and Management

At the top of the module, users can:

  • Create a Rule - opens the rule creation panel (currently limited to New News alerts)
  • Search rules using a filter bar
  • Refresh to update rule statuses and recent executions

Below these controls, all existing rules for the active watchlist are displayed in a structured table.

Available Rule Type: New News Alerts

What it does

A New News alert is triggered whenever a new article is published for any symbol in the watchlist.

Where alerts appear

New News alerts can reach the user in two ways:

  1. Inside the application
    • New articles alerts automatically appear in the News tab.
    • The corresponding rule is marked as triggered, with the latest execution outcome visible in the Rules table.
  2. Through Connectors
Alerts can also be delivered externally via:
    • Email notifications
    • Push notifications

Connectors allow users to forward news alerts outside the app for real-time updates.

Execution Type

New News alerts are On-event rules:

  • They run immediately when a new article is detected.
  • They are not tied to intervals or schedules.

Current limitations

  • No other types of alerts (price, volume, sentiment, technical, etc.) are currently supported.
  • Only the New News trigger is available when creating a rule.
